A Basic Guide to Modern Coastal Interior Design

Do you feel like your home’s interior is already outdated? You should try switching things up with a breezier, more relaxed décor. One design that’s fast gaining traction today is modern coastal, which focuses on neat lines, clutter-free surfaces and nautical-inspired flourishes. But how exactly do you incorporate it into your home?

  1. Choose white as the main color. The palette of modern coastal design is predominantly white. Use it for walls, ceiling and furniture to provide your home with a bright and airy feel. For accent colors, a strong blue and a soft gray will help break up the room and give it more depth. You can also use neutrals like beige and cream for various accessories, such as rugs, coffee tables and mirrors.
  1. Use plenty of natural materials. This means making wood, cotton and jute elements as the highlight. They not only add a lovely and comfortable feel to your space, but also help tie the elements of your modern coastal design together. Another tip: natural stone will work perfectly as kitchen and bathroom flooring. Choose something light-colored to give these spaces a seaside vibe.
  1. Increase your access to natural light. Sunlight is a huge factor in modern coastal design. Open up windows – or install newer, bigger ones – to let as much natural light as possible into your home. If that’s not possible, make sure to hang gilt-framed mirrors inside the space. This allows the sunlight streaming into your home to bounce across the walls and ceiling, maximizing it.
