The old saying “the first step is always the hardest” certainly applies to getting started on major projects like kitchen remodeling. However, as the rest of the saying goes, it gets easier after that. Today, we share a quick guide on how to get your kitchen remodel to a good start.
Plan for a Temporary Kitchen
Your kitchen won’t be available until your remodeling project is complete, so you have to plan for a temporary kitchen. A kitchen remodel can take weeks; you and your family would be tired of take-out before the project is complete. You can set up a kitchen space in the garage or in the backyard. A sturdy table can do double-duty as your prep and dining area, a backyard sink can be used for general washing and an induction stove can be used for most of your cooking. If you have a grill in the backyard, use it more often. It doesn’t use electricity, meats and vegetables can be prepared in advance, and you can make mealtimes more fun by having your family do their own grilling.
Talk to Your Remodelers
Don’t forget that remodelers like us are people, too. We won’t know what’s on your mind until you talk to us – the success of a remodeling project depends on how well both remodeler and client communicate with each other, after all. Talking to your remodelers will give you the confidence to make informed decisions that will make the project more “you,” ultimately leading to taking that proverbial first step.
Don’t Worry if You Don’t Have a Detailed Plan
Clients or homeowners who have fully realized visions of what they want their kitchen to be are rare. The other extreme is more common: people who only have a goal – to remodel their kitchen – but don’t have a concrete plan in mind. Fortunately, design/build remodelers like us are more than capable of working with our clients, from the initial rough design stage all the way to completion.
