When Not to Take Your Remodeler’s Advice

Home remodeling contractors like us give plenty of advice on all aspects of remodeling, from planning to maintenance. However, there are times when you should plan a few steps ahead of your remodeler.

Research May Take Longer

Inexperienced homeowners may roll the dice and leave absolutely everything to their remodelers. While this is extremely convenient in the sense that one only has to wait and see how the project will turn out, it may also take some time for the remodeler to come up with one or several designs. Perhaps, the homeowner will want specific components that may be something that isn’t manufactured anymore so it may take time for the contractor to find suitable replacements.

Remodelers Are Not Mind Readers

Whether you’re planning a kitchen remodel or home addition, all choices, such as materials, styles and colors, will ultimately be yours. While you can leave the choices to your contractor, the results will be what they perceive as what you want, which may or may not be exactly what you want. A good remodeler will ask you for input on what works with your taste and style, and balance it with what would look good. This is why you should be involved with the planning stage more than anything else: once the plan and project is set in motion, changes to it midway would be very costly.

Not All Remodelers Have In-House Designers

To get a good design, you must work with a good designer. Not all remodelers have their own designers.  Lacking that option, look for a design/build remodeler who can handle all aspects of the project, including the design part. We’re pround to have a team of professionals that specialize in every aspect of major home renovations.
